Wingnuts

The Most Ridiculous Trailer of the Summer

Here's the latest feature-length bit of wingnut docu-fiction.

First, is there any actual reporting or content in this thing? As near as I can tell, it's just a series of heads repeating the same specious opinions we've heard over and over. And the cartoon, which does the same thing.

Second, there's a lot about "wealth redistribution" and "generational theft" with regards to the deficit in this trailer. So let's look at, you know, reality. Here's the now famous chart of the deficit they're talking about in the trailer, along with a color-coded breakdown of the reasons for the deficit.

The dark blue and yellow sections are the Bush Republican wars and the Bush Republican tax cuts. The light blue section is the revenue losses due to the recession which began on Bush's watch. And -- shock horror -- they're collectively the bulk of the deficit between now and 2019, while the numbers that flash on the screen in the beginning of the trailer are represented by the wafer-thin beige section. Who's stealing from whom, wingnuts?! (Unlike the Bush Republican Medicare Part D, the healthcare reform bill actually reduces the deficit over 10 years, so suck it.)

As for wealth redistribution, it's my money that's helping to finance the shortfall created by the $678 billion in tax cuts for the super rich, should the tax cuts be renewed. That's my money. My modest middle class income is being redistributed to rich people like Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and Newt Gingrich.

So I ask these lying bastards: if you're so against "wealth redistribution," can we have it back, please?
