Abortion

All Politics is State and Local

While a considerable cross section of the progressive movement is preoccupied with shaming the president while contemplating doomed-to-fail primary challenges, the real fights are being waged at the state and local level.

For example, the far-right is kicking our asses on abortion. More than 900 new laws have been introduced and almost 80 of them have been passed -- each one restricting or outright banning abortion statewide.

How did this happen?

Toby Ziegler on The West Wing once said, "It's not the battles we lose that bother me, Leo. It's the ones we don't suit up for." We barely suited up for the abortion fight. I feel like we could have done more to stop this deadly anti-woman tide. But we're perpetually focused on the wrong things. We ought to be on the ground, going door-to-door.

But we're not and I don't know why.
