Crazy Quote of the Day

"I would instruct the national security officials in a Gingrich administration to ignore the Supreme Court on issues of national security." Newt Gingrich

It's hilarious how the far-right wraps its sweaty, flabby arms around the Constitution and the founding fathers... until they get a'scared. Then they can't wait burn them all in effigy, you know, so the terrorists don't win. By the way, this isn't the first time Gingrich has talked about this. Engage the wayback machine to 2006. And while we're here:

"You have no civil liberties if you are dead." --Senator Pat Roberts, R-KS

"None of your civil liberties matter much after you're dead." --Senator "Big John" Cornyn, R-TX

"Our civil liberties are worthless if we are dead! If you are dead and pushing up daisies, if you're sucking dirt inside a casket, do you know what your civil liberties are worth? Zilch, zero, nada." --Rush Limbaugh

And, Newt, the Congress–that is if they chose to actually act in accordance with the Constitution they swore to uphold and protect–would remove you from office for “high crimes or misdemeanors”. Ignore the Supreme Court? Newt–they are the highest court in the land. And, by the way, we have an independent judiciary.

Time to remind these doofuses that nobody is above the law, not even presidents. Trust me, if Obama tried such a thing, the House would convene impeachment hearings so fast it’d make your head spin.

Ain’t it the truth. And none of the MSM interviewers have brought up the fact that Newtie’s GOP didn’t fulfill some of their ‘Contract With America’ pledges, such as term limits.

The one silver lining here is that there is actually zero chance of there ever being a “Gingrich administration”.

I think Rachel Maddow has it right: Gingrich is only running for president to sell his books, keep his name out there as an ‘important GOP personage,’ and flatter his oversized ego — he never really believed he could win the nomination. His cheesy campaign of “I’m too old now to do anything but be your president” to excuse his sordid past makes me laugh and wince at the same time.

This is the justification for the ‘Unitary Executive’ (read ‘The President is Our Emperor Who Can Do No Wrong’) theory that many on the right embrace, unless there happens to be a Democrat in the presidency. That, of course, is contrary to the laws of the universe. Bush could rip up the Constitution and start needless wars based on lies to ‘make us safe’ and then they raise hell over Obama providing air support to Libya as part of a UN-sanctioned mission to protect innocent Libyans against a Gadaffy massacre. The clock has run out on these pathetic GOP hypocrites.

I invite Limbaugh, Cornryn, Roberts and the rest of these idiots to personally test that stupid premise.

Give me liberty, or give me death!
    No, wait…
Take my liberties, so I won’t die!

Isn’t Newt a college history professor or something like that? I wonder what he has to say about the “terrorists” of Shay’s Rebellion, The Whiskey Rebellion, Aaron Burr, and The Civil War? Oh, let me guess, those “terrorists” in our past were “home grown” or they really weren’t terrorists because they weren’t Muslims, they were just protesting “socialism.” Socialism? The Whiskey Rebellion was a tax rebellion (people were injured or killed) against an excise tax that Alexander Hamilton pushed through congress to pay off bondholders of The Revolutionary War debt. By the way, Hamilton was an author of the Federalist Papers.

Newt was a history professor in the same way Sarah Palin invented the Palm Pilot. I hope no one had to pay to take his ‘history’ course.

Funny how civil liberties are worth zero, zilch, nada under a police state, WHILE ONE STILL LIVES.

    • incredulous72

Yeah, I’m trying really hard (in futility) to understand the “civil liberties don’t matter if you’re dead” line. Clearly these idiots missed that whole “Rousseau Social Contract” , part of their history courses.

I’ve noticed the Republicans in the Midwest are mighty ‘putschy’ these days.

  • muselet

And remember, Newt Gingrich is the Big Ideas Guy for the Republican Party. Just ask him, he’ll tell you.

Go away, Newt. Go far, far away.
