Jesus Canceled Monday’s Republican Convention

Just in:

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Republican officials abruptly announced plans Saturday night to scrap the first day of their national convention, bowing to the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac as it bore down menacingly on Florida.

"The safety of those in Isaac's path is of the utmost importance," tweeted Mitt Romney, his formal nomination as presidential candidate pushed back by a minimum of 24 hours from Monday night to Tuesday.

As I wrote on Sulia last night: So they'll be vacating their arena that was 62% financed by taxpayer money -- redistributed wealth that was taken from other parts of the state and given to Tampa. Then, if there's any damage due the hurricane, Florida's Republican-led government will ask for federal disaster relief from FEMA and other agencies -- redistributed from taxpayers all over the nation. To paraphrase President Bartlet, if these small government zealots are so dead set against taxes and government spending... can we have it back, please?

And don’t forget, the reason they even know that a hurricane is projected to hit the west coast of Florida is because of the socialist National Weather Service.

That title is priceless. Couldn’t agree more.

Rolling back the big start-up day for the convention is a great start. Now they just need to take the initiative and cancel it completely.

And though this does not have much to do with this article I figured that any interested in shattering some of the false equivalency between the two parties would appreciate this: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/08/false-equivalence-watch-a-positive-sign/261581/

They aren’t really against spending and big government. They just want to be sure that their owners (the plutocrats) pay nothing or the least possible amount in taxes, along with them being the party which actually gets to decide how to spend the gov money (and get rid of the blackety-black guy while they’re at it).

Yeah, exactly. They’ll blow up the debt and deficit, sure, no problem. Need a quick $50 billion every month for Iraq? Call it an “emergency!” they’ll trip over themselves trying to redistribute more wealth to the filthy rich, funnel taxpayer dollars to subsidize big oil, christian zealot universities, military contractors and war, abstinence only programs, the enforcement of DOMA, Darrell Issa witch hunts, on and on.

They have no problem with appropriating/promoting/providing unlimited resources to their anti-science/anti-democratic wingnut causes.

We have at least 30 years of history proving the republican party to be willfully incompetent wealth stealing/redistributing budget busters.

95% of the population have to suffer for Republican economics to “succeed.”

      • Brutlyhonest

You’re both correct, but we have to always remember to hammer the party of small government for growing government every time they’re in charge. Look at the monstrosity that is DHS. The new Director of National Intelligence is a similarly useless bureaucracy that was created by bushCo.

Apparently we can have some of it back — Gov Scott has rejected $4.9 million in Federal money for “parenting assistance” because it was ‘part of Obamacare.’

Governor Golum appears to be doing everything he can to assure he’s only a one term governor.
