Voter Suppression

Jon Husted Called On His Bluff, Backs Down

Good news -- faced with the prospect of appearing in court to explain himself, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has rescinded his order to continue restricting early-voting hours.

Husted also issued a formal apology to the court for Directive 2012-40. “The Secretary’s intention was not to create a stay of this Court’s Order,” the filing read. “The Secretary apologizes to the federal district court for creating that misimpression and has rescinded Directive 2012-40.”

Directive 2012-40 declared that Husted would "prohibit county boards of elections from determining hours for the Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday before the election," but he claims staying the court's order was not his intention?

Translation: please don't hurt me!

I reserve the right to lob childish ridicule in Husted's general direction for having the arrogance to believe he can write his own laws and for being an embarrassment to Ohio.

Bravo to Judge Peter Economus for making Husted pee his pants.

Jon Husted isn’t through yet. Rick Hasan:

Today, Husted rescinded the controversial directive.  In a new filing in the district court, Husted apologized to the court, explained his directive and his decision to rescind it, and requested a stay of the district court’s order while the matter is on appeal to the Sixth Circuit.

He’s (sort of) doing it right this time, but asking for a stay after thumbing his nose at Judge Economus’s original order takes a lot of nerve.

Except straight to ass-pounding prison for Husted, hopefully.

Husted knew Economus had the shackles all monogrammed and ready. Bravo indeed.
