Guns

Party of Reagan. Or Maybe Not.

President Obama referenced Ronald Reagan's support of gun control during his press conference today so the right wing's natural response is to claim Reagan only supported gun control because he had Alzheimer's.

From MSNBC's interview with Erich Pratt of Gun Owners of America via ThinkProgress

ANDREA MITCHELL (HOST): What’s the problem with registering a gun? If you have a bushmaster, first of all, why would you have one?

PRATT: President Reagan owned an AR-15.

MITCHELL: And he supported gun control. He advocated…

PRATT: In his later years. We have to keep that in account.

MITCHELL: In his later years he was almost killed by John Hinckley.

PRATT: But all through his presidency he opposed gun control, that’s my point.

We've come full circle. Republicans are now dumping on Reagan because the president proposed more rigorous background checks.

It's all too easy to get under their skin, isn't it? From the party who brought us the phrase "wussification of America."
