A Gun Rally Is Still Not A Peaceful Rally

About 200 peace-loving peace mongers turned out for the “Firearm Freedom Rally” that took place at the Washington State Capitol yesterday.

Event sponsors may have been a little disappointed in turnout, predicting as many as two thousand guns, but to make up for this, everyone who did show up to protest a bill that makes it more difficult for convicted felons, the mentally ill, or those subject to protection orders to get a gun, brought their dates extra guns and not-so-bright looks on their faces:

Interestingly, current Open Carry laws in Washington State allow for these sorts of demonstrations that begin with threats of violence and end with laws that allow these sorts of demonstrations.

King5 News, reports:

Rally attendees cheered speeches telling of a “progressive conspiracy,” warning against allowing children to become “slaves of the government” and citing Nazi Germany and contemporary Australia as cautionary tales of a disarmed citizenry.

Multiple speakers encouraged those assembled to keep posting pro-gun sentiments on Facebook even if people unfriend them.

The group calling themselves “The 2nd Enforcers” are targeting several bills up for votes in the state, via Rawstory:

The bills would expand background checks to cover all gun purchases in the state, make leaving a loaded gun in a location accessible to children a crime of reckless endangerment, allow cities to prohibit guns at parks or recreational facilities, and ban guns from school campuses, among other things.

The 2nd Enforcers have their own ideas, called, “The Firearms Freedom Act of 2013!”

Sounds free enough, but what’s in it?

“The bill states that firearms in Washington are “not subject to federal law or federal regulation” and would make attempting to enforce federal gun laws a felony crime.

Public displays of intimidation and making felons out of gun law enforcement. Peace!
