Lynne Cheney is not only alleging that the Vanity Fair Lewinsky story is a plant; she’s alleging that the Clintons control Vanity Fair. Or something.

“I really wonder if this isn’t an effort on the Clintons’ part to get that story out of the way,” she told guest host Laura Ingraham on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor.” “Would Vanity Fair publish anything about Monica Lewinsky that Hillary Clinton didn’t want in Vanity Fair?” [...]

“Getting it out of the way so they can say one time ‘it’s old news’ seems to me like a strategy or a tactic, perhaps,” she said.

The idea that they’re getting ahead of the story so it becomes old news would make sense if not for a couple problems.

The most obvious problem is it is old news. It’s 16-year-old news.

The other problem is Republicans got the ball rolling. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) debuted this avenue of attack several months ago and conservative media figures such as Joe Scarborough backed him up.

Are Republicans trying to make this old news? If they know what’s good for them they would. The largest voting bloc today was anywhere from 8 to 18-years-old when Bill Clinton was impeached over a blowjob. In 2016 children who were born in 1998 will be 18-years-old and eligible to vote for the first time. Do you think they give a shit about the Lewinsky story?
