Benghazi Campaign Finance Ethics

Show Me The Money

The chairman of the Select Solyndra IRS Committee to Investigate the Benghazi ACORN Birth Certificate says no one should use Benghazi as a fundraising pitch, but his colleagues apparently didn’t get the memo.

WASHINGTON — Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) on Wednesday morning urged his fellow lawmakers not to use the investigation he is leading into the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, to raise money, calling it a subject that “transcends politics.”

Minutes earlier, the National Republican Congressional Committee sent out a fundraising email tied to Gowdy’s role leading a select committee to investigate the attacks.

The NRCC’s exploits are just the tip of the shitberg.

Media Matters also has a roundup of Benghazi fundraising pitches from media figures and, not surprisingly, Fox News staff are at the top of the list.

Chip in $5 now to help Mike Huckabee do something something something about Benghazi. Chip in $20 or more so Allen West can continue bleating about cover-ups and run for Congress again.

Holding a hearing purely for political gain “transcends politics”?

  • Badgerite

Oh puleeeeez. With the GOP, nothing transcends politics.

That is increasingly becoming the norm in conservative politics. Newt’s phony award scam used to be an outlier, but today, the GOP is a political fundraising machine the exists mainly to continue raising more funds.

The Rs really can’t help themselves. They reflexively—and, let’s face it, effectively—fundraise off every pseudo-scandal they invent.

The only time they wouldn’t do that would be on a day that didn’t end in a ‘y’.
