Hospitals Save $7.4 Billion Under Obamacare in 2014, GOP Says Repeal

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, hospitals saved over $7 billion under Obamacare in just the last year.

The savings reflect a reduction in the so-called “uncompensated care” that hospitals provide to uninsured Americans, and are even greater than HHS officials predicted they would be at the beginning of this year. [...]

Nearly 70 percent of the savings documented in the HHS report — a total of $5 billion — occurred in the 29 states that have expanded Medicaid. And, if every state had agreed to add more people to their Medicaid rolls, their hospitals could have saved an extra $1.4 billion.

It's important to note that the majority of these savings can be attributed to the expansion of Medicaid because hospitals in states that have not expanded Medicaid are not benefiting as greatly from the Affordable Care Act. On the contrary, some rural hospitals in states that have refused to expand Medicaid have been shut down.

The Republican party has produced three separate budgets in just the past week that all call for a full repeal of Obamacare.

Why do Republicans hate hospitals?
