What Could Go Wrong?

Written by SK Ashby

Great news for the gun fetishists and lunatics of Indiana -- as of Wednesday you will be allowed to purchase and own sawed-off shotguns. For some reason.

The shotgun bill is among a group of other other laws that will all go into effect tomorrow, July 1st.

Indiana residents can legally own manufactured sawed-off shotguns as of Wednesday.

The law repeals a state ban and allows people to manufacture, sell or own shotguns with barrels 18 inches long or less.

Bill sponsor Sen. Jim Tomes, R-Wadesville, said the change puts state law in line with federal regulations that allow ownership of short-barreled shotguns by those who pass background checks for permits from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

If you're not familiar, sawed-off shotguns are shortened to fit into smaller spaces and for easier concealment.

Expanding the scope of concealed-carry to shotguns is obviously what the founders intended, right?

While I jest, this may be good news for gun fetishists but it's bad news for law enforcement and the general public. Some small shotguns can be concealed almost as easily as a pistol and, due to their short barrels, they have a wider spread of shot that can increase collateral damage.
