Fiorina: To Defeat ISIS, We Should Do a Thing That We’re Already Doing

Written by SK Ashby

Republican presidential candidate and former HP CEO Carly Fiorina does not believe we need to deploy ground forces to defeat ISIS, but she does believe we should be doing something that we've already been doing for nearly a year.

“We really are sitting by when we could be leading a coalition of Arab allies to defeat ISIS,” she said. [...]

"I think the Jordanians, the Saudis, the Kuwaitis, the Kurds and the Egyptians are all fighting ISIS as we speak on the ground," she said.

"They know this is their fight. Yes, they need leadership, resolve support and material from us. We haven't provided any of it. And if we did, it will make a big difference."

Not only have we provided the material support and resources Fiorina is calling for, the United States has also facilitated and participated in thousands of air strikes that continue to this day.

For Pete's sake, President Obama initially faced criticism last Fall when he decided to take action against ISIS without congressional approval. And in spite of the Republican party's insistence that we widen our war against ISIS, the Republican-controlled Congress still hasn't approved a new Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) requested by the president.

American forces and personnel have been leading the fight against ISIS for nearly a year and Republicans do not even acknowledge their service let alone praise it.

I can't emphasize the latter point enough because Fiorina is hardly alone in pretending America forces have not already been engaged for many months. Republicans simply do not care if there's no political benefit for them in acknowledging their mission and their service.

Turkey just recently opened its air bases to the American-led coalition fighting ISIS.
