Planned Parenthood Files a Lawsuit Against Alabama

Several days after filing a lawsuit against Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal over his decision to terminate Planned Parenthood's Medicaid provider contract for no reason, the organization has filed a second lawsuit against Alabama Governor Robert Bentley.

“Governor Bentley is trying to dictate where a woman can go for contraception and other preventive care if she’s enrolled in Medicaid,” Staci Fox, who leads Planned Parenthood Southeast, wrote in a statement. “Meanwhile, Alabama is dealing with some of the nation’s worst health outcomes, and restricting access to providers will do nothing to help the urgent problems we face.”

Given that the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has already informed both Louisiana and Alabama that terminating Planned Parenthood's Medicaid provider contract would violate federal law, this would seemingly be a slam-drunk for Planned Parenthood. Or least we hope so.

Numerous state and federal investigations of Planned Parenthood have turned up nothing and, as we now know, the smear campaign videos were exceptionally fraudulent.

I fail to see what leg, if any, Bobby Jindal and Robert Bentley have to stand on. There's no there, there.

Medicaid services are completely unrelated to abortion or fetal tissue research, for that matter, and Planned Parenthood clinics in Louisiana do not even provide abortion.
