Conspiracy Theory Super Stupid

Conspiracy Theory

Written by SK Ashby

Conservative news aggregator Matt Drudge must be getting desperate as he is now making appearances on the Alex Jones InfoWars show.

Drudge joined Jones for an interview yesterday where he peddled a particularly dumb conspiracy theory.

He said that the Obama administration began referring to the Islamic State as "ISIS" so that the group would be confused with Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), the former chairman of the House Oversight Committee.

"We never heard of ISIS until recently," Drudge told Jones. "Do you know it was designed to be confused with Darrell Issa?" [...]

"They came up with the name ISIS to be confused with Darrell Issa. I’m really being honest with you," Drudge said.

To be clear, ISIS stands for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and it was chosen by the group, not the Obama administration. The group is also known by several other names such as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). It may also be referred to as Daesh. None of these names are necessarily incorrect. The so-called Islamic State has designated itself as such.

Drudge is the first person I've ever seen establish even a remote link between ISIS and Darrel Issa so maybe that says more about him than anyone else.

I should say I've used the term "appearance" loosely because Drudge didn't exactly appear on the show. Drudge remained in the dark for the duration of the interview.

Who does he think he is? Deep Throat?
