John Kasich Knows Outreach, But He Doesn’t Have Any Taylor Swift Tickets

Written by SK Ashby

Ohio governor and Republican presidential candidate John Kasich held a town hall meeting at the Jepson Alumni Center at the University of Richmond in Virginia where he called on a female college journalist by telling her he doesn't have any Taylor Swift concert tickets for her.

Here's her account:

My hand was raised, my body half-way out of my back-row seat, when Gov. John Kasich finally acknowledged me.

"I'm sorry, I don't have any Taylor Swift concert tickets," he said, his eyes meeting mine. [...]

Most of the questions came from older members of the community, many vocalizing their support of Kasich before throwing him a softball question. Kasich barreled through a Planned Parenthood question, dismissing the young woman who posed it, and derided me when I had the audacity to raise my hand.

And here's video of the exchange captured by the campaign trackers of American Bridge.

"I don't have any tickets for, you know, Taylor Swift or anything or, you know, Linkin Park."

This is only slightly less condescending than John Kasich framing his pitch for appreciation of immigrant workers by talking about the time he tipped his hotel maid.
