Congress Fail

Rand Paul, Destroyer of Legislation, Righter of Wrongs, Gives Up After 19 Minutes

Written by SK Ashby

On Tuesday of this week Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) vowed to filibuster the 2-year budget deal which raises the debt ceiling through March of 2017.

"I'll shout about it. I'm going to talk about it until I'm tired of talking about it and until people wake up and say this is wrong for the country" Rand said.

Rand Paul did not go through with his much-hyped filibuster, however, and he only spoke out against the budget deal for 19 minutes.

The presidential hopeful took to the Senate floor at 2:46 p.m. and ended his remarks less than twenty minutes later. [...]

And his campaign sought to raise money off the filibuster. In one fundraising email with the subject line “I’m going to filibuster,” Paul asked supporters to donate $20.16.

Rand spoke on the floor of the Senate again last night at around 2 a.m. but the budget deal passed the Senate by a margin of 64 to 35 at 3 a.m. and will now head to the president's desk for a signature.

If you donated to Rand Paul's campaign to support his brief not-really-a-filibuster speeches, all I can say is 'there's a sucker born every minute.'
