Republicans Will Vote to Defund Planned Parenthood, Repeal Obamacare. Again.

Written by SK Ashby

Unless I'm mistaken this will be the third vote to defund Planned Parenthood, however it will be the umpteenth vote for repealing Obamacare.

House Republicans will vote on a package of legislation that accomplishes both and Senate Republicans are expected to support it.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) signaled Tuesday that he supports Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) strategy for aiming at both ObamaCare and Planned Parenthood in one package.

“We’ll take up reconciliation when it comes over from the House. And it’s my hope and expectation that it would have in it as much of ObamaCare as we can repeal. And I hope that it will also include provisions to de-fund Planned Parenthood,” he told reporters.

By using the reconciliation process to advance this package of bills, Republicans will avert the possibility of a Democratic filibuster, however Senate Republicans may not have enough votes to pass it under simple majority rules.

A handful of vulnerable Republicans will not support legislation that defunds Planned Parenthood, while the last remaining conservative Democrats will not support legislation that does both.

Even if Senate Republicans manage to thread the needle and pass this legislation, the president obviously won't sign it.
