Kentucky’s New Governor Will Shut Down Kynect

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin (R) is a small government warrior so, naturally, he is preparing to hand more power to the big federal government.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has notified U.S. authorities that he plans to dismantle the state's health insurance exchange created under the Obama Administration's Affordable Care Act, the Courier-Journal reported on Monday. [...]

Bevin, a Republican, has said his goal is to complete the transition of the state's system, known as "kynect," by the end of 2016 to the federal system, the Louisville newspaper said.

Available evidence tells us state-run exchanges are slightly more effective than the federal exchange so you may or may not consider this a great loss for the citizens of Kentucky, but what's really interesting to me is Governor Bevin essentially ceding power to the federal government.

States obviously have more control over their own health insurance exchanges, which means more of that much-desired States' Rights power for the new Bevin administration, but he has chosen to give up that power.

I have no idea if Bevin or his supporters even realize that.
