Chuck Grassley’s Job Apparently Consists of Doing Nothing

As you've probably heard, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has declared that his committee will not hold hearings, talk to, or vote to confirm (or even reject) anyone nominated by President Obama to fill Antonin Scalia's seat on the Supreme Court.

Grassley was asked by reporters if he's concerned about becoming the first committee chairman in history to blockade a Supreme Court nominee and Grassley flatly said he doesn't care.

“Do you think I spend my days wondering about how Chuck Grassley will go down in history?” he told reporters on Wednesday, according to The Des Moines Register.

"I don’t care if I ever go down in history,” added Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. "I’m here to do my job.

It's the president's duty to nominate a Supreme Court justice. It's the Senate's job to review and consent to a nominee. That makes it Chuck Grassley's job.

It's not as if the Judiciary Committee or even the full Senate have anything else on their plate at the moment. Congress spends most of its time doing absolutely nothing under Republican leadership.

More than just hyper-aware liberals are going to begin recognizing that conservative members of Congress are paid a salary of over $170,000 to sit around and do nothing. I'd argue at least some portion of Donald Trump's support can be attributed to that.
