Congressional Republicans Tell Joint Chiefs to Oppose the President on Gitmo

A group of congressional horrible people led by the very smug Representative Mike Pompeo (R-KS) have addressed a letter to the Joint Chiefs of Staff telling them to consult their lawyers before they obey an order from the president of the United States.

“As the urgency of the threat presented by Islamic extremism grows, we cannot afford to have the commander-in-chief issue executive orders in direct contravention of laws that he enacted,” Pompeo said in a statement. “I encourage the Joint Chiefs of Staff carry out an exhaustive legal review before implementing any executive order transferring these dangerous terrorists to the United States.”

In no uncertain terms, these congressional sacks of shit are asking the Chiefs to revolt over an issue that is objectively political in nature. The claim that transferring prisoners to maximum security prisons would endanger national security any more than the existence of Guantanamo Bay already does cannot be substantiated.

It's not their place to decide whether or not to follow the president order to close the prison if he should give such an order.

If President Obama does issue an executive order to unilaterally close the prison, congressional Republicans may challenge the order in a court room, not the situation room.

Well, at least they seem to have given up the idea of repealing “Obamacare” for the billionth time.

  • Christopher Foxx

I’d like to see a clear response from the Joint Chiefs that the will not disobey or ignore an order from their Commanding officer.

    • muselet

I’d rather the Joint Chiefs maintain a dignified silence. It’s all those 16 putzes deserve.

      • Christopher Foxx

Yeah, I agree. That’d be the adult way to respond. To ignore it as if it didn’t exist and not be drawn into it.

But sometimes you just really want to see the petulant infants get the head-ringing bitchslap they so very much deserve.

        • Actually what I would like to see is the Joint Chiefs respond with questions of their own. “Representative Pompeo are you encouraging me to disobey my Commanding Chief in a time of war?” And then when Pompeo responds with a stuttering ‘nnnno, not at all”, then “Good, because I would hate to think you would encourage such treasonous behavior”.

Remember, these are the same people who believe with all their flabby little hearts that the military would back them if they decided to use their Second Amendment Remedies against the Kenyan usurper.

    In other words, they’re delusional.

And Mike Pompeo’s implied threat to the Joint Chiefs is very odd (and very empty). What would be his reaction if a group of D Representatives issued a similar threat during an R presidency, I wonder?

No wonder needed. I’m pretty sure we all know exactly how the infantile little shits would whine.

    • What would be his reaction if a group of D Representatives issued a similar threat during an R presidency, I wonder?

I’d bet he’s recommend internment camps for the commy fascist liberals.

      • muselet

        At the very least.

  • Victor the Crab

Because these Republican asshats have read too many comic books and think that these prisoners from Gitmo could easily break out of these U.S. prisons and cause all kinds of havoc, as if they were the Joker escaping from Arkham Asylum.

    • muselet

You didn’t know that Mooslim terr’ists have superpowers? What Left-wing nonsense have you been listening to? [/wingnut]

    • It doesn’t help that there have been some notable escapes recently. Unfortunately people are very stupid and don’t recognize that ALL of the escapes were from State prisons and NOT from Federal prisons. No prisoner has ever escaped from the only federal supermax facility since it was opened in 1994. I have full confidence they could keep the Guantanomo prisoners and I would also expect they would be treated far more humanely.
