Conspiracy Theory

A locally-organized group of constituents attended Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz's town hall meeting in Utah last week where they yelled at him to 'do his job.'

His constituents yelled at him because they want him to hold Trump to the same standards as he held Hillary Clinton and President Obama, but Chaffetz believes they were paid to yell at him.

Chaffetz said the crowd that filled the auditorium at Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights and spilled over into a protest outside included people brought in from other states to disrupt the meeting.

"Absolutely. I know there were," he said, suggesting it was "more of a paid attempt to bully and intimidate" than a reflection of the feelings of his 3rd District constituents.

Attendance and protests outside the town hall were organized by Indivisible Utah, a local branch of a nationwide movement. No one was paid to be there, they simply RSVPed on social media because that's how things work in 2017. You don't need a well-funded machine to organize protests when the lives of virtually everyone are threatened. People will show up if you simply tell them when and where.

Republicans are in for a very long spring and summer if they believe their Trump-related problems are going away anytime soon. And if they actually make progress toward taking healthcare away from 20 to 30 million people, the whole country is going to explode in protest.
