In other news, the speaker of Britain’s House of Commons says they will not vote on Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan again, bringing the country closer to either delaying the Brexit or leaving the EU without a deal.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law making it illegal to spread fake news which is defined as information that "exhibits blatant disrespect for the society, government, official government symbols, constitution or governmental bodies of Russia.” So, it's basically a totalitarian censorship law.

Finally, here's John Oliver on the good and bad power of public shaming.

If you take away the shootings and the petty arguments on social media, there's simply not a lot happening in the news right now. And I don't do petty. At least not usually. There's been no news on trade negotiations, no news out of the Mueller probe, and Congress is on recess until next week.

And the White House is absolutely stonewalling any and all oversight by refusing to hand over documents and making people available for testimony. Screw that, start issuing subpoenas and get..this..done! Also, where are Rump’s tax returns?

  • Draxiar

Strong people don’t need laws to protect their ego. Putin is not strong, he is not tough, he’s a coward trying to hide the truth of what he is. Dictators usually are.

But weak people who enjoy bullying and have a lot of power at their disposal can do a whole lot of damage to everyone and everything.

“Exhibits blatant disrespect for the society, government, official governmental symbols, constitution or governmental bodies of Russia.” Another words anything that Putin or the Russian mob doesn’t like. If your lucky they will arrest you. If you are unlucky, they will just kill you. They should call it the the Russian Saturday Night Live law.
America needs to stand against this kind of oppression of truth and the human spirit. Right now, on the world stage, we are leaderless. Worse than leaderless.

“exhibits blatant disrespect for the society, government, official government symbols, constitution or governmental bodies of Russia.”

In other words, Trump’s wish list.

That picture of Trump is way too dignified.

That picture of Trump is way too dignified.

Oh, is THAT who it’s supposed to be? Doesn’t look much like him at all.

Of course, “blatant disrespect” is not at all the same thing as “fake.”

The flabby orange pustule squatting in the white house must be drooling with envy. I wonder if Putin was taunting trump about Putin’s new law, thereby setting off trump’s raving twitter tantrum over SNL skits and late night shows showing such “blatant disrespect” to His Lordship and King of the Country,.
