Donald Trump

Donald Trump is Senile

Does Trump have any idea, at all, what's in the bills he personally celebrates passing?

I don't think so.

We should spend "more" on healthcare, he says, but he can been seen in the above photo celebrating the passage of a bill that would cut $1.2 trillion in healthcare spending, including over $800 billion from Medicaid, over the next decade.

To ask if Trump has any idea what's in the bills he pushes almost feels like a misnomer because the better question might be is he even capable of understanding any of this? I'm skeptical that he would understand even if you sketched it out on a blackboard.

Meanwhile, Trump evidently didn't learn a single thing during his trip overseas.

We don't have a trade deficit with Germany because we don't trade directly with Germany. We trade with the European Union.

Also, Trump still doesn't have a clue how NATO works. He still seemingly believes members of NATO pay us for protection, but it doesn't work that way. Every member of NATO has their own military and defense budget and each member is encouraged, but not required, to spend at least 2 percent of the GDP on defense.

Now, you could say Trump is merely an idiot, but I think that's bit too dismissive or even apologetic. There's something seriously wrong with Trump.

That's the president of the United States saying the Russians are laughing at the United States.

I remember when the "party of Reagan" liked to say Reagan defeated the Russians. Now they provide cover for Trump.

Jesus Christ, the reason it is stalling in the Senate is because you don’t have 50 votes. The bill is written so the GOP only need the 50 votes! Listen and pay attention you soiled man baby.

No, Donald Trump isn’t an idiot. As I’ve argued before, he’s almost certainly of roughly average intelligence. And I don’t honestly think he’s suffering from senile dementia.

What he is, is intellectually lazy and aggressively ignorant, to an extent that makes George W Bush look like a diligent scholar by comparison. Trump knows nothing and doesn’t want to learn about healthcare or NATO or Senate rules or international trade or the EU, has his intelligence briefings delivered in as little detail as possible (and he still manages to garble what few details he hears). Yet he believes he’s always the smartest, best-informed person in the room.

Donald Trump is a walking, talking, breathing example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect. And the Peter Principle.

  • I bet the Russians are laughing alright, but for entirely different reasons

Even after Trump leaves the White House I doubt it will ever be possible for relations with our traditional Western European allies to fully return to what was once thought of as normal. Even if Trump is replaced by a president (Democrat or Republican) who announces that everything will treated as if Barack Obama had never left power they will always know that electing another Trump is now a possibility. They would naturally have to set policy with that possibility in mind. Economically, militarily and in regards to intelligence sharing. It will all be done with the knowledge that something like Donald Trump could happen again.

This has always been the danger with the GOP recklessness with our democracy. There are some things that cannot be undone. Unsaid.
And this is one of them. The alliances. The ones Putin and the former Soviet Union has always envied.

“The alliances. The ones Putin and the former Soviet Union has always envied.”

And have now deeply (and likely irreparably) damaged. The KGB couldn’t have pulled this off because it never had 20 years of Fox and 30 years of Rush relentlessly undermining democracy on their behalf.

Fox and idiots prepared the right wing psychologically for at least a decade to be receptive to propaganda. Putin just saw the opportunity and pounced.
