Eric Trump: Refugees Took Your Wages

While our national class of white pundits debate among themselves if Donald Trump's phantom pivot is happening or not, and whether or not it appeals to them if it is actually happening, the rest of us remember how Trump's campaign began.

Case in point, Donald Trump's son Eric denies that his father is pivoting away from his harsh stance on immigration and if we are to believe that Trump's children are his closest advisers, it's easy to see why that will never happen.

"I mean, [Americans] should come first. You were born in this country. You were born here legally. You’re here legally. I mean, wages have been stagnant for the last 15 years and it's because you have, you know, Syrian refugees coming in," Eric Trump continued. "It’s because you have, you know, thousands of people coming over the border. I mean, and Americans are suffering because of it and that's his point."

You can apparently count the Trumps among the people who actually believe the United States has accepted millions of refugees into the country. The truth is we've accepted far fewer refugees than many of us would like to see, numbering just a few thousand.

Wages have stagnated because minimum wage has stagnated. Wages have stagnated because we've allowed them to as voters and citizens. Voters are responsible for electing the politicians who block and fight against higher wages. The existence or non-existence of unknown persons has virtually no impact on wages.

Eric Trump may be an idiot who has no idea what he's talking about, but he's still blaming brown people for things his political party are responsible for. You don't have to understand economics or basic governance to understand the core of what he's saying.
