The chief spokesman for the Florida Republican party resigned from his position today so he will no longer be forced to support Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

From the Washington Post:

Wadi Gaitan, a former senior House Republican aide who focused on Hispanic affairs, becomes yet another high-profile Latino Republican official to leave his job because he can no longer tolerate defending and explaining Trump. The Republican nominee has spent much of the past year maligning immigrants, minorities and women, a strategy that helped him win the party’s nomination but that has led to historically poor approval ratings among black and Latino voters.

Gaitan is not done being a Republican nor is he going to support Hillary Clinton as far as we know, he’s simply done being a spokesman for Trump’s Republican party. Gaitan will continue to promote “free market solutions” by joining a conservative group backed by the Koch Brothers that reaches out to Hispanic communities.

It would be ideal if everyone vocally supported Trump’s opponent, but publicly abandoning him may be enough to get the job done. Trump cannot be allowed to win.

Is it possible to be scared by someone ‘smiling’ at you? Why does he remind me of Freddie Krueger?

Yesterday, Josh Marshall called out the Rs declaring they won’t vote for Donald Trump:

The simple truth is that unless you’re saying who you’re voting for and in practice unless you’re saying you’re voting for Hillary Clinton it’s a cop-out, an effort to distance yourself from Trump on the cheap. In a first-past-the-post electoral system like ours, elections are binary choices.

Mashall is sympathetic to Rs having to face that blunt choice (“If you’re a Democrat, just imagine if the Democrats had nominated someone who not only had extremist views but was clearly too mentally unstable to be president. How easy would it be for you to vote for say Jeb Bush?”), but he doesn’t let anyone off the hook:

But even with all that said, it’s a binary choice. It certainly helps to some degree depriving Trump of a single vote. But by not voting for Clinton you’re also depriving the only person who has a chance to beat Trump of a vote.

Wadi Gaitan is to be applauded for recognizing that his party’s presidential candidate is unfit for the office. However, he’s just indulging in self-congratulation if he doesn’t support the other major-party candidate, who is gasp shock horror! Hillary Clinton.

“But even with all that said, it’s a binary choice. It certainly helps to some degree depriving Trump of a single vote. But by not voting for Clinton you’re also depriving the only person who has a chance to beat Trump of a vote.” If only some Purity Progressives could grasp this concept instead of saying they’ll vote Green Party, or cast a write-in ballot, or sit the election out.

I have to express the same sentiment as I did last week.

Sure as hell took ’em long enough!
