The 2020 presidential election is nearly behind us and that means it's time to close the books on an inordinate amount of nonsense we've endured over the past four years; so much nonsense that, honestly, I've forgotten about half of it. But I'm sure that's for the best.
Now, like every other chicken that's been thoroughly fucked by the Republican party for as long as I can remember at this point -- since about 2011 when they first took partial control of Congress -- the Trump regime's probe of the Obama administration's "unmasking" of Trump's former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn found nothing.
Well, actually, it didn't find nothing.
It found no wrongdoing, one of the sources said.
Unmasking refers to the naming of U.S. citizens whose identities were blacked out in reports from the National Security Agency that captured their communications with a foreign national.
Trump and his allies have sought to portray the use of the process during the administration of his Democratic predecessor, President Barack Obama, as a misuse of government authority.
It is a routine practice, and Trump administration officials have made thousands of such requests, government statistics show.
The real reason the public release of this report has been delayed until after the election is because it found nothing incriminating. And we knew it wouldn't. It was entirely appropriate for the Obama administration to "unmask" a private citizen at that point (Flynn) because he was interfering in official foreign policy by talking to the Russians.
This is just one among several investigations that are going to conclude in the coming weeks and months with almost none of the fanfare that preceded them.
Republicans wouldn't know what to do with all of their time if they didn't spend it on scandals they fashioned out of whole cloth. I mean, they don't government, so what else is there to do? Ban abortion? But let's not give them any new ideas.
It's up to everyone to vote to keep control of Congress out of the hands of Republicans. Do it for the innocent chickens that haven't been fucked yet.
