Freedom Caucus Chairman: No Immigration Reform Under the Next President

Written by SK Ashby

It was already clear that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan will not advance an immigration reform bill during the current session of Congress, but House Freedumb Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) says there will be no immigration reform even after President Obama leaves office.

“We got assurances on the immigration issue and this comprehensive Gang-of-Eight-type of plan that that’s not going to happen,” Jordan told radio host Laura Ingraham on Friday. “And frankly, in the next Congress, there’s no way something like that moves unless the majority of our conference supports it. And the majority of our conference, as you rightly point out, doesn’t support that.”

I don't necessarily expect House Republicans will change their tune even if they lose another presidential election and the minority vote by an even greater margin than the previous election.

It seems far more likely to me that the party and its base of voters will become even more xenophobic.
