Full Circle: Trump Will Blame Mexicans For His Behavior

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump launched his campaign by blaming all of the nation's problems on Mexican immigrants, and that position may also be where he concludes his campaign.

According to the Wall Street Journal, at some point today Trump is going to say Mexicans are responsible for generating stories about his sexually predatory behavior.

Donald Trump will broaden his attack against the media to hit globalism and the Clinton Foundation by charging that Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim is part of a biased coalition working in collusion with the Clinton campaign and its supporters to generate news reports of decades-old allegations from several women. [...]

Attacking the Mexican billionaire would allow Mr. Trump to hit several targets. He could slam the “failing” New York Times, which he says had to be “rescued” by a “foreigner”—Mr. Slim, the adviser said.

Recent polling has pegged Trump's support among Latino voters at around 15 percent. There's still a chance that number could go lower.

For perspective, George W. Bush won 40 percent of the Latino vote in 2004. John McCain won 31 percent and Mitt Romney won 27 percent.

But it's not just Latino voters who may be insulted by this latest talking point. Virtually everyone should be insulted because Trump clearly believes we're all just as dumb as he is.

His base will love it, but he can't win with just his base. Trump is alienating and distilling his base down at the expense of every other demographic.

It should be noted that Carlos Slim actually has Lebanese ancestry, but that's obviously not the intended message here. Trump's campaign knows who Slim is, but all his supporters will hear is "Mexican."

The only people in the US who have ever heard of Carlos Slim are news junkies and people who are, for whatever reason, obsessed with media tycoons.

Only a rather slow-witted bigot would make this accusation, and only other slow-witted bigots would fall for it.

I expect Matt Drudge and Dead Andy will be all over this non-story like a cheap suit.

Dear press. This is not a “he said/she said”. This is a “he bragged about it on tape and then she said, and she said, and she said, and she said, and she said, and she said…..” And……”he” is a serial liar. So.
Who you gonna call? Ghost busters! We ain’t afraid of no Orange Monster.

The press is concerned about the “timing” of this. Really? No they aren’t. They are concerned about getting flack from the less than silent minority that simply do not care as to truth of what is alleged anymore than they cared that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii the son of an American mother from Kansas. Who do they think they are kidding? They are chickenshit and that is all there is to it. They would just as soon not have to say or do anything that might actually involve actual reportage or controversy. So they pretend they do not know the truth here when it is staring them accusingly in the face. They know.

Man. This is one giant attempt at “Look over there”. The simple fact is the underlying accusations. Not how they surfaced or who published them. And this is not actually a case of ‘he said/she said’. For one thing, we have a person who was recorded bragged about exactly the kind of behavior that the women coming forward now allege. What is more, we have a person who is, at this point, a KNOWN …SERIAL… LIAR.
Put those two facts together and it is game over. These women are, of course, telling the truth about the kind of person the GOP has nominated to be President of the United States. Were he to be found to have done these kinds of things in office, it would be an impeachable offense. A violation of the oath of office.

    • I heard Drumpf categorically denying the accusations on the radio and he said something to the effect that “I don’t even know who they are”, which I think we can safely translate to, “I don’t remember assaulting these women so their claim is false”. And I wouldn’t doubt for a minute that he wouldn’t remember them. They’re not people to him (plus he’s old). Just because a sociopath doesn’t remember you doesn’t mean he didn’t shit on you. Kind of reminds me of a joke that Colbert made a couple of weeks ago about Herr Drumpf who seems to have problems with the concept of “object permanence”. /snort

Indeed. Has the press and the GOP suddenly forgotten that this guy has been demonstrated to be a serial liar. So often now it defies understanding. It is beyond lying. He has carried the act of lying into performance art.

For some reason, your phrase “distilling his base down” made me think of the movie “Time Bandits”. Evil is compacted and distilled into a small stone. The young hero tries to warn his parents – “Don’t touch it! It’s Evil!” – but they don’t listen and are instantly vaporized when the stone explodes. Republicans were warned not to touch Evil, but they paid no heed, and now are getting consumed in the conflagration. Who could have predicted?
