GOP Leader: We’re Too Busy to Do Anything About Anything

Are Republicans even going to try to pass Trump's fake infrastructure plan? Are they going to try to pass an infrastructure bill of their own making? Are they going to try to pass anything significant at all?

Probably not.

You see, Republicans are just too busy doing nothing to do something. They have no current plans to take up Trump's infrastructure bill or anything else according to Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn.

Sen. John Cornyn, the Senate majority whip, said Tuesday that passing an infrastructure bill by the end of the year will be a tough task because lawmakers are facing a host of other priorities — news that would be a major blow to Trump’s hopes for another big legislative victory before the November midterm elections.

"I think it's gonna be hard, because we have so many other things to do and we don't have much time," Cornyn (R-Texas) told reporters.

It's only February. What are their priorities? What are they planning to do?

Don't get me wrong, we'll all be better off if they don't pass Trump's plans to privatize more of America, but this is the Republican party. The Republican party is not a governing party. They aren't going to pass a sensible infrastructure plan. They got their tax cuts. What's left for them do?

I suppose they might try to ban abortion, again.

“I think it’s gonna be hard, because we have so many other things to do and we don’t have much time,” Cornyn (R-Texas) told reporters.

Translation: We have to arrange and attend so damn’ many fundraisers and campaign rallies it’s not even funny, and primary season is about to start. It’s unreasonable to think we could legislate, too.

Nice work if you can get it (and if you’re a lazy, good-for-nothing waste of skin).

Also, Ashby, please don’t joke about abortion.

I’m not joking. I’m sure they will hold a vote for a 20-week ban, again, and it will be defeated by a Democratic filibuster, again. The House voted to pass a 20-week ban last month but it died in the Senate.

I’m more concerned about state-level restrictions than federal ones. There are (just) enough Ds in Washington DC to keep the Rs from driving the country completely off the rails, but that’s not always true in the states, where Rs are always looking for a test case for the Supreme Court to use to overturn Roe.

The Rs will vote again and again and again for abortion bans, and they and The Base will never take ‘no’ for an answer, never admit defeat, never cede a single millimeter, and will always keep any vestigial sense of empathy carefully buried. If they weren’t dangerous loonies, they’d almost be worthy of pity.

All the more reason why Democrats need to regain control of state governments.

FiveThirtyEight projects that Democrats have a reasonable chance to win as many as 18 gubernatorial races this year. Even winning half that many would be huge.

I read an article today about the significant increase in the number of women who live in red States coming into Illinois for abortions because their own state governments have made it so difficult. I do wonder how many of them vote R.

            (a) I’m not surprised; and (b) probably more than a few.

Republicans have eliminated so many clinics in Texas that women have been traveling to Mexico to buy abortion drugs over the counter. There’s also a black market in Texas from people buying the drugs in Mexico and reselling them in the US.

      Yeah, no shit on abortion.
