GOP Senator Says Meeting With SCOTUS Nominee Didn’t Go Well Before Actually Meeting Him

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) has not actually met with Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland yet but he has already written his reaction to meeting him.

Hatch’s pre-written reaction was apparently published a bit prematurely.

“Like many of my Senate colleagues, I recently met with Chief Judge Merrick Garland, President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court. … Our meeting, however, does not change my conviction that the Senate should consider a Supreme Court nominee after this presidential election cycle,” Hatch wrote in an op-ed published on the website of the Deseret News early Thursday morning and later removed. It remains available in a Google database.

I suppose it’s technically true that meeting Garland will not change Hatch’s mind if he has already decided that it won’t.

Do we need any more evidence that Republican politics is The Truman Show in reverse?

Orrin Hatch is a lying partisan hack. The Deseret News should be ashamed of its decision to run his obviously disingenuous op-ed, and Hatch should never again be taken seriously by anyone.

Neither of those things will happen, of course.
