GOP Senator: Trump is Still Better Than Clinton

We’re going to hear this a lot over the coming months as Republicans try to justify their support for Donald Trump.

Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) told reporters this afternoon that that even if Donald Trump is terrible, he’s still better than any Democrat.

ROUNDS: “Even if you’re disappointed with the way he’s responding to things, even if you’re mad at him, you disagree with him, if he did it intentionally — I don’t think he did, I think he just made a mistake — even if he did, they’re still going to do a better job with him there than if you had Hillary or Bernie in his place.”

I suspect there will be a significant number of conservatives and Republicans who don’t actually believe Trump would be better than Hillary Clinton, but they will say so anyway for the sake of party loyalty and to avoid Trump’s wrath.

  • These guys ALWAYS coalesce behind the nominee. If it were Hitler himself they’d do it. I am highly skeptical that there will be any sizable groups of Republicans who won’t vote for Trump over Hillary.

After all, they can convince themselves that tax breaks for billionaires create jobs and that climate change isn’t real. They’ll talk themselves into believing that Trump will be better than Hillary.

“they’re still going to do a better job with him there than if you had Hillary or Bernie in his place.”

Who does the “they’re” in that sentence apply to? The donors? Yeah, probably. I don’t suppose Trump is going to buck the GOP mandated by scripture rule that thy wealthy must always be receiving tax & regulatory cuts so yes THEY WILL DO BETTER!!!!!

The problem with Trump is that half of what he says actually makes sense, sounds sensible and even, at times, refreshingly frank. The other half is a toxic brew of perfidious bullshit, vacuous narcissism and retrograde meanness. If enough people ignore the latter, he’ll win.

And there are several Berniebums out there who feel the same way regarding Hillary Clinton. This is why we can never have nice things.

Either boxes of rocks and sacks of hair could outthink Mike Rounds or he’s decided the Republican Party’s official slogan should be Party Before Country.

Which is a distinction without a difference.

Stated with the same stunning lack any facts or reasoned argument supporting his asinine assertion.
    The Donald would be proud.
