Governor Fallin: Birther Trump is a “Racial Healer”

This may be a bit of a shock to those of us who know Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as an unrepentant birther and rabid xenophobe.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin appeared on CNN over the weekend where she said Trump is running as a "racial healer."

FALIN: "I think he is trying to campaign as a racial healer. I think that has been part of his message. If you watch what he’s said this week, he talks abut how devestating this was for Dallas, how we need to respect our law enforcement, how we need to pray for those who were killed and those who were injured."

To say that he's "trying" to run as a racial healer manages to be slightly worse than simply claiming he's running as a healer

If he's "trying" to, I can't imagine what his campaign would look like if he wasn't trying. This is a man who launched his campaign by declaring that immigrants are mostly criminals and rapists.

The cornerstone of Trump's entire platform is building a racially-divisive border wall on our southern border. He has called for banning Muslims from entering the country. He has the support of Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He's the number one candidate for white nationalists and supremacists.

Are Trump's birth certificate investigators still in Hawaii?

Sounds a little like that the claims by the evangelical community that he is “trying” to develop something resembling a “sincere” religious belief. Apparently, he’s working at that too. Along with being a “racial healer”. And yet,,,,,David Duke seems to think he’s their guy. Hmmm. I wonder why?

I just watched Trump’s first speech since the mass shooting in Dallas. It was pure race baiting. He’s running Richard Nixon’s campaign entirely. “Law and Order & Silent Majority”. He kept talking about “our inner cities being left behind.” What that means exactly or how it connects to the killings of two men at the hands of the police or the mass killing of police officers in Dallas I do not know other than to “dog whistle” out the idea that somehow Black Americans brought this on themselves. This is the man Gov. Mary Fallin calls a “racial healer.”

This is not the country I thought I lived in.

    • Sadly, it is the country I grew up in. I just thought it had progressed further than it actually has.

        Same here.

I’ll give Donald Trump exactly this much credit: he managed to respond to the Dallas shootings without saying something horrific. I know, that’s setting the bar awfully low, but he did clear it.

However, Mary Fallin’s “I think he is trying to campaign as a racial healer” line is either self-delusion or incredibly cynical.

Elsewhere during the interview, she said that it was “more dangerous” to be black in American.

“It’s both more dangerous because of crime — which is the Chicago story — but it is more dangerous in that it is substantially more likely to end up in a situation where the police don’t respect you and where you could easily get killed,” she said.

Nope. Scratch self-delusion (notice the Chicago! dogwhistle).

Fallin is reportedly on the short list of Trump’s potential running mates.

I hope she isn’t expecting to get the nod, if for no other reason than I’d have to reassess the “self-delusion” bit above.

I can’t give him credit for that knowing he had no input on it at all. He didn’t write the statement.

      • muselet

Oh, but think how much worse he could have made things if he’d decided to edit that statement.

I still think Trump deserves the microscopic amount of credit I gave him.

The insane thing about Trump is that the less coherent his words are (he has the best words) the more honest you know he’s being. The word salad is who he is.

    • The 4th Estate agrees with your low bar apparently. They’re thrilled he said something coherent and unbiased. Now they can go forward with the fantasy that he’s a viable candidate and the horserace can continue unabated.

      • muselet

Our glorious news media have been announcing Donald Trump’s Pivot To The Center For The General Election for two months now. It hasn’t happened—it won’t happen—but as you say, the horserace is more important. Actual reporting doesn’t get high ratings.

        *sigh*
