Abortion War On Women

Governor Sam Brownback Arrives Late to the Party, Picks Fight With Planned Parenthood

It has already been well established that states cannot arbitrarily cut off Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, but Kansas Governor Sam Brownback apparently believes he has a level of authority that no other governor has.

Several states have already tried and failed to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood, including the state of Alabama which was even forced to reimburse Planned Parenthood for legal costs, but Sam Brownback has given the order.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has ordered state officials to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood and its affiliates through the state Medicaid program, a move the organization said on Wednesday it would challenge in court.

Brownback, a Republican, said in his state of the state address on Tuesday that he would direct the state health secretary to ensure that no taxpayer money go to Planned Parenthood, which he said trafficked in baby body parts.

You'd think if Planned Parenthood was actually trafficking in body parts, that would have come up in court by now, wouldn't it?

Why didn't the states of Alabama or Texas think of that? Why haven't other states deployed the smoking gun against Planned Parenthood? Why haven't we seen the receipts?

Maybe because it's a goddamn fantasy.

You’d think if Planned Parenthood was actually trafficking in body parts, that would have come up in court by now, wouldn’t it?

And who is buying them? I mean, if Planned Parenthood is sell all these baby parts there has to be SOMEone buying them, doesn’t there? Why do we never hear about them?

These “baby trafficking” lies get obliterated the first time anyone actually asks a rational question about it. Of course, no reporter or legislator really challenges the lie. If they did crap like this latest shit from Brownback would never get anywhere.

This seems like a desperate plea for national attention and a way to distract from how deeply his policies have damaged his state.

By making another policy that further deeply damages his state.

IOW, all Republicans ever know how to do these days.

“Between 1991 and 2014, the teen birth rate declined by an impressive 61%
nationwide. It has declined in all 50 states and among all
racial/ethnic groups. However, progress has been uneven.” https://thenationalcampaign.org/data/compare/1701
Does no one look at these stats and believe the ability to access Family Planning (health and education) is part of lowering these numbers? It is mind boggling.

That would be relevant if the fetus fetishists—and Righties in general—were actually interested in reducing the teen pregnancy/teen abortion/adult abortion rates. They’re not. They’re only interested in controlling other people’s lives, in particular their sex lives.

That’s why I keep saying I wish these people would get another hobby.

        Too true, sadly.

They’re only interested in controlling other people’s lives, in particular their sex lives.

Can never be stressed enough that THAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT. If they truly cared about the fetuses and ending abortion “conservatives” would be falling over themselves to make birth control universally available (women who avoid pregnancies don’t tend to need abortion), pre-natal care the norm and child support affordable.

But the don’t give two shits, hell, not even one shit, for babies either not yet conceived, in the womb, or already born. What they do care about is taking freedom from other people and controlling their lives.

Few things just make me rage like these hypocrites.

This is of a piece with Sam Brownback’s previous actions, including trying to block family-planning funds from going to Planned Parenthood back in 2011 (a judge ordered the funding restored).

The only surprise is that it’s taken Sam Brownback this long to jump on the (rickety) ZOMG! VIDEOS! bandwagon.

He showed up literally half a year late on this.
