It has already been well established that states cannot arbitrarily cut off Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, but Kansas Governor Sam Brownback apparently believes he has a level of authority that no other governor has.
Several states have already tried and failed to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood, including the state of Alabama which was even forced to reimburse Planned Parenthood for legal costs, but Sam Brownback has given the order.
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has ordered state officials to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood and its affiliates through the state Medicaid program, a move the organization said on Wednesday it would challenge in court.
Brownback, a Republican, said in his state of the state address on Tuesday that he would direct the state health secretary to ensure that no taxpayer money go to Planned Parenthood, which he said trafficked in baby body parts.
You'd think if Planned Parenthood was actually trafficking in body parts, that would have come up in court by now, wouldn't it?
Why didn't the states of Alabama or Texas think of that? Why haven't other states deployed the smoking gun against Planned Parenthood? Why haven't we seen the receipts?
Maybe because it's a goddamn fantasy.
