• And in other news, Team Mittens said that they will release his 2011 tax’s returns by October 15, 23 days before the election. Because, you know, he know how to get the economy back to full steam in no time. He just won’t tell us how he is going to do it.

I’m sure Bob or Ashby will be all over this tomorrow, but I just have to get this rant off my chest. Apologies in advance for the length and number of links.

Todd Akin is a misogynistic idiot who believes that victims of “legitimate rape” (as opposed to illegitimate rape, one presumes) are very unlikely to become pregnant (He’s wrong.).

Akin also doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of ‘misspoke’.

This is particularly embarrassing for the Rs because Akin and Paul Ryan were cosponsors of H.R.3, which TPM reminds us: “would have limited the federal abortion coverage exemption only to victims of “forcible rape” and women whose physical health was in danger from her pregnancy, closing a supposed loophole in health-of-the-mother exemptions conservatives have been crowing about for years.”

Don’t worry, though: the Romney-Ryan campaign issued a stongly-worded statement on the subject:

Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan disagree with Mr. Akin’s statement. A Romney-Ryan administration would not oppose abortion in instances of rape.

Those blessed with long memories will recall that Ryan cosponsored a “personhood” bill in Congress, and that Mitt Romney told Mike Huckabee that he would “absolutely” have supported a personhood amendment in Massachusetts. So, this is yet another “trust me” moment for the Romney-Ryan campaign.

Can someone please tell me what Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan has done to earn our trust?

ADDING: Todd Akin is polling ahead of Claire McCaskill in the Missouri Senate race. *facepalm*

And amazingly, he’s ahead in the polls.

It’ll be interesting to see if this comment has any affect on the next poll.

I hope it will, but I fear it won’t.

They have to specify “legitimate rape” since so many of them think (or at least they say) that women can’t really be raped if they don’t want to be. That’s right, I’ve heard some of these neanderthals say, and seem to truly believe, that a woman can cinch up and prevent rape.

RE him polling ahead: The idiocy of the ‘merkin public may never cease to amaze me.

I often wonder if the men—it’s almost always men—who believe and say crap like this have ever had any women in their lives.

        • Brutlyhonest

I suspect the only women they know are the ones who believe it is their place to do as they are told by men; you know, the kind who also can’t be raped by their husbands.

      • “…I’ve heard some of these neanderthals say, and seem to truly believe, that a woman can cinch up and prevent rape.”

Yeah, since NO always works. Their attitude makes me physically ill and it makes me worry for my own daughter’s future in the U.S.

I’ll never understand the greed and selfishness required to think it’s ok to lose every thing you have because someone in your family gets sick.
