ICE Agents Are Sadistic Bastards

A group of ICE agents wrongfully arrested several employees at a restaurant in Michigan yesterday, but before doing so they sat down and ate breakfast produced by the labor of the employees they arrested.

Bree Stilwell of Sava’s Restaurant in Ann Arbor, Michigan told The Daily Beast that employees said three to five ICE agents sat down for breakfast before apprehending three immigrant men working at the restaurant and taking them away. Stilwell said that the employees have proper documentation, but didn’t have it on their persons this morning.

“One ICE agent was stationed at the back door, and one at the front,” Stilwell said. “They apprehended one of our employees taking the trash out to the back alley and immediately put him in handcuffs, misidentifying him as the employee they were looking for. The detained employee showed the agents his documentation and was released, but three others were arrested.”

None of the employees they arrested are actually present in the country illegally and all three of them were expected to be released yesterday.

These agents obviously arrested the employees because they simply look like immigrants. They were racially profiled.

For every incident like this that we hear about, I assume there are many more that we don't.

They sat down and had breakfast first. The people ICE thought they were coming to arrest are such a threat to the republic that the agents took time out to grab a bite to eat and a cup of joe.

I hope they weren’t get paid by the hour.

I wish they will stop being paid period.

My first question on seeing the lede was, did they pay for the meal, or stiff the restaurant?

ICE informed Ann Arbor Police Chief Jim Baird of a “targeted enforcement detail”at the restaurant on Wednesday morning, within an hour of the agency’s presence at the restaurant, MLive reported.

The person la migra was looking for—targeting, to use the bloodless, bureaucratic term—had had, according to Bree Stilwell, “some run-ins with the law a long time ago.” It’s unclear from the story whether he is a current or former employee, not that such petty details matter to ICE. Remember when immigration agents were gleefully saying their jobs were “fun” again? This is the sort of fun they meant.

Making America Great Again, three false arrests at a time.

Given that everyone they arrested was released, I assume their target wasn’t there. But who knows? Maybe they had the wrong target. Maybe they didn’t actually have a specific target. Maybe they lied. I assume the greatest level of incompetence and/or malevolence possible.

Sadly, that is a safe assumption.

  • This crap has been going on here in AZ for many years. Essentially the Trump Administration has informally nationalized SB1070 policies. Welcome to the nightmare America.

I hope the ACLU files a lawsuit on their behalf. Though I fear its resources my be spread pretty thin over the next four years…

    • We in Maricopa County have paid out about $51 million overall for Joe Arpaio’s racial profiling. This sum does not include ALL the other lawsuits he’s faced, which includes deaths in his jails, civil rights violations, defending other unconstitutional laws and behavior (of which there seems to be no end of here in AZ). Now the entire country will pay for this kind of lunacy and it really sucks. Other jurisdictions should nip this in the bud IF they can.

      No doubt.

Fortunately, donations are up. But it’s going to be a long, long slog and we know the bad guys never rest, so we can’t either.
