“I’m, like, a smart person”

Is our children learning?

We jest, but it appears increasingly likely that despot-elect Donald Trump will make former President George W. Bush look good.

Trump spoke to Fox News and confirmed that he skips the overwhelming majority of intelligence briefings afforded to him, but he said he doesn't need to receive them because he's smart.

Trump said he gets briefings “when I need it” because “I don’t have to be told — you know, I’m, like, a smart person. I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years — but eight years. I don’t need that.”

It may be true that daily intelligence briefings often contain repeat information (I don't know, I've never received one!) but we don't have to guess what can happen when a president skips or ignores briefings.

We also don't have to guess how Trump will respond if there is a successful terrorist attack on his watch. Trump will blame the same intelligence community he's currently attacking and ignoring.

Nothing is ever Trump's fault.

This is how another 9/11 happens. This is terrifying. 62.9 million morons have turned our national security over to a high school kid who is too lazy to do his homework.

This is how another 9/11 happens

And when it does, that’s when the REAL serious problems will start. Because Trump and the Republicans who have cravenly started licking his asshole en masse will use it as an excuse to outlaw any dissent and suspend civil rights on a massive scale.

They’re looking forward to it eagerly.

    1) I’m fast getting misty-eyed over Dubya’s presidency. I know, I know… and I’m not really, it’s just… sigh…

    2) “I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years — but eight years.”

“Oops, wasn’t supposed to mention that I will be here for 8 years, oh, the hell with it, what are they going to do about it, anyway?”

This is the second time I have heard trump or someone on his team of traitors casually throw out the notion that trump has an 8 year term.

I understand during the campaign using terminology like “the next president blah blah blah…” in order to show confidence and so on. But do presidents who haven’t even been sworn in routinely talk in such a matter of fact way about the 8 years they will be in office? I found this to be very noticeable and jarring.

    • Lincoln had his “Team of Rivals” and Trump has his “Team of Traitors”. If ever there was a sign we have reached the beginning of the end for our little experiment it is the fact that these traitorous assholes occupy those same hallowed halls.

If that’s the case then it’s easy to figure that the US will be a much smaller, weaker nation after 8 years.

No, it’s true! Nothing changes on a day to day basis that might impact our national interests. Really, just the same old, same old, day in, day out. How many times did Bush have to sit through briefings that went on and on about some rabble-rouser in Afghanistan who was determined to attack the US? Sheesh, same thing, day after day. Useless briefings!

As others—such as Steve Benen—have noted, how would Donald Trump know if intelligence briefings are repetitive? He’s only participated in four since Election Day.

    [Y]ou know, I’m, like, a smart person.

No, sir, you’re nothing like a smart person.
