Internal White House Analysis Shows Trump’s Tariffs Will Hurt the Economy

We know Trump's trade war is bad news for all of us, but that's also what the White House says. At least in private.

Analysis from the White House Council of Economic Advisers, which hasn't been released to the public, says Trump's trade war will slow economic growth.

But don't worry, the council's chairman says, because there's still time to make a deal.

The chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Kevin Hassett, an economist who came to the administration from the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, dodged questions at a White House briefing on Tuesday about whether tariffs would hurt an economy that has accelerated during Mr. Trump’s tenure.

Asked whether the administration’s economists had modeled the impact that a trade war with China would have on the United States economy, Mr. Hassett said Mr. Trump was a great negotiator who would persuade other countries to open their markets to American products.

I suppose that would be more comforting if Trump had ever made a single good deal in his entire fucking life.

He has not.

The more people closest to him blow smoke up Trump's ass, the more likely it is all the worst predictions will come true.

Instead of defending Donald Trump’s actions or explaining what analysis the CEA had made regarding tit-for-tat tariffs, Kevin Hassett instead chose to produce as perfect a non-sequitur as has been heard in many a year.

    Yeah, we’re screwed.

It would take a lot of smoke to fill that barn door sized ass, but Iam sure he has surrounded himself with enough flunky turds to do it.
