It’s Long Past Time for John McCain to Go Away

Senator and Man Who Picked Sarah Palin to Be His Running Mate John McCain is making headlines for all the wrong reasons today.

The senator from Arizona spoke to reporters this afternoon where he said President Obama is "directly responsible" for the shooting in Orlando, a claim that becomes progressively more stupid when you follow McCain's entire train of thought.

From the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. John McCain says President Barack Obama is "directly responsible" for the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, because Obama has allowed the growth of the Islamic State group on his watch.

McCain — who lost to Obama in the 2008 presidential election — made the comment to reporters Thursday while Obama was in Orlando visiting with the families of those killed in Sunday's attack and some of the survivors.

McCain went on to say that prematurely pulling troops out of Iraq and not invading Syria led to the rise of ISIS, but we'll come back to that in a moment.

The Orlando shooter had no documented ties to ISIS aside from his last-minute pledge of loyalty which he seemingly hoped would earn him notoriety on Facebook. Really. CIA Director John Brennan actually spoke to the Senate Intelligence Committee today and said they've uncovered no evidence that the shooter had ties to ISIS.

By all accounts ISIS would not exist today if we hadn't invaded Iraq to begin with in a war which John McCain was a chief cheerleader for. Does John McCain hold himself "directly responsible" for the Orlando shooting?

Given that the Orlando shooter had no connection to ISIS, the latter half of McCain's argument against President Obama becomes a misnomer even if you agree with McCain that the president's actions allowed ISIS to grow. The shooter still wasn't ISIS.

There's no there, there.

I have never understood the cache that this man seems to have with the media. His military record was abysmal prior to his capture, his career as a politician has had so many flip-flops and twists that it is a wonder he does not have a spine like a pretzel, he has never met a war or conflict that he has not wanted to plunge the country into whatever the human and monetary costs, and his inflicting the horror of La Palin on the world should have finished him off, but yet he is still granted the kind of respect and worship from the media like a savior of the people would be given. But I guess that is what happens in the conservative world today, no matter how loathsome and incompetent you are, you continue to fail upwards.

McCain — who lost to Obama in the 2008 presidential election — made the comment to reporters…

… who then challenged him on that point, asking a series of fact-based questions and pointing out that McCain’s comments didn’t fit with demonstrable reality.

    Then pigs flew by.

Republican Sen. John McCain said Thursday that President Barack Obama is “directly responsible” for the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, because of the rise of the Islamic State group on the president’s watch. But he later issued a statement saying that he “misspoke.”

“I did not mean to imply that the president was personally responsible. I was referring to President Obama’s national security decisions, not the president himself,” McCain said in his statement, issued as his initial comments were drawing heated criticism from Democrats.

Every time John McCain opens his gob, he disgraces himself a wee bit more. If he had a shred of dignity left in the shriveled husk of his soul, he would retire at the end of his term and spend his days at the family compound, snarling quietly to himself as he reads the Arizona Republic. Instead, he’ll probably be reelected and spend the next six years trying to get the US into more overseas military adventures.

Sit down and shut up, Senator. It’s the right thing to do.
