Republican Party

Jindal: No More ‘Bumper-Sticker Slogans’

Evidently Bobby Jindal wants the Republicans to become the, errrm, the Democrats.

“We’ve got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything,” Jindal told POLITICO in a 45-minute telephone interview. “We cannot be, we must not be, the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys.”

He was just as blunt on how the GOP should speak to voters, criticizing his party for offending and speaking down to much of the electorate.

“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments — enough of that,” Jindal said. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.” [...]

“Simply being the anti-Obama party didn’t work. You can’t beat something with nothing. The reality is we have to be a party of solutions and not just bumper-sticker slogans but real detailed policy solutions.”

So what he's calling for is a divorce from the AM Radio / Fox News crowd -- the "conservative entertainment complex" as David Frum called it. Good luck with that, governor.

The guy who wasted his moment in the national spotlight by mocking “something called volcano monitoring” and who is currently sending taxpayer dollars to support creation science classes in Louisiana.

He’s worried about Republicans being the stupid party?

“We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”

Piyush Jindal saying this? Man, that’s rich…

    I like Chez’s take:

“On the one hand, Jindal’s right. On the other, getting Bobby Jindal to carry this message for you is like getting Ronald McDonald to try to scold you into eating less crap.”

Jindal’s talking about the GOP being the party of solutions while Fox Nation is accusing Hillary Clinton of traveling to Australia just for a wine tasting event.

Yep, the 2016 race has begun!

  • Jindal the Theocrat is apparently auditioning for the role of Mitt-Flopper in the next production of Republicans on Lies.

  • JWheels

If Bobby Jindal is actually serious with that statement, I give it 1 to 3 years before he becomes a Democrat… lol

  • Not Sayin

Well, that’s kind of smart. Too bad my favorite game to play whilst driving through his precious state is to holler JINDAL at full vol every time I hit a huge pothole. You grow hoarse quickly if you play along.

Yeah, that and a nickel will get you a nickel’s worth of spit, because right wingers can’t do anything with an idea without it first being rendered down into some idiotic nugget devoid of all substance or real meaning, but gosh, it sure sounds like it represents genuine, honest American values and stuff! Keep it simple! Go Americaneers!

“We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.” ”

You mean like Ryan did throughout the campaign:
“I don’t want to go all wonky on you…”
“We don’t have time to go into details…”
“You would all just change the channel…”
“Trust us! We’ll only get rid of the bad exemptions and deductions and credits!

Yeah. Good luck with that, because your problem is that you don’t dare tell the people what your plans are for them. We do happen to be intelligent, however, and are able to figure out your idiot master plan. Here’s the takeaway for you. We don’t like it.

  • whateverak

This from the guy who made the “dumb comment” a couple years ago about ending monitoring of volcano eruptions. Maybe that doesn’t happen a lot in Louisiana, but it sure does up here in Alaska and can be very disruptive and dangerous to air traffic, which is about the only way we can get a lot of places

  • Brutlyhonest

Those “offensive, bizarre comments” that, you know, publicly state the party’s positions.

Has Rush played any Bollywood theme songs for Bobby yet? look, out Gov. Jindal. It’s coming.
