Kasich Says Shitshow Convention Will Be Fun for the Kids

Ohio Governor John Kasich has no chance of becoming the Republican nominee for president and his campaign is facing increasing calls to drop out of the race, but Kasich seems determined to keep going.

There is every indication that a contested convention would be an epic disaster that could literally spark riots in the streets of Cleveland -- a scenario the city of Cleveland is preparing for -- but Kasich says a contested convention would be fun for the whole family.

Kasich spoke to ABC's George Stephanopoulos and said the coming shitstorm will draw the attention of The Youngs who love the Kardashians.

"We just have to keep going and we’re going to have an open convention. And, George, you’re the guy that gets open conventions. It’s going to be so much fun," Kasich said. "Kids will spend less time focusing on Bieber and Kardashian and more time focusing on how we elect presidents. It will be so cool."

"So cool."

I have no doubt a pro-Trump riot in Cleveland would draw the attention of the entire country, but not for good reasons.

It's increasingly clear to me the Republican party is completely fucked this year regardless of who they nominate at their convention. I'm not saying Democrats should be complacent (personally, I can hardly wait to vote for the first woman to be president) but let's face it, the GOP is screwed. Democrats should focus on down ticket races where the Republican party will be vulnerable under an extraordinarily weak nominee.

Charlie Pierce has a pretty good take on John Kasich’s enthusiasm for a brokered convention:

It’s an interesting twist in Kasich’s message, and possibly a shrewd one, as well. If he can normalize the possibility of a contested convention while, at the same time, cast it as an exercise of participatory democracy instead of the dockside hooley that everyone is expecting, then he puts himself in a very good position to profit from it, especially considering that most of what’s left of the Republican establishment trembles at the possibility of He, Trump as the nominee, and almost all of them also consider Cruz to be a nasty skin rash.

A brokered convention is the only way Kasich will get within shouting distance of the White House, so he’s going to push for one as hard as he can. Donald Trump and Ted Cruz could squash him like a bug, but they’re too busy trying to claw each other’s eyes out to bother, so why not go for it?

Kind of looks like Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos 2016 backfired, doesn’t it?

And agreed on the downticket races. There’s an opportunity here that shouldn’t be squandered.

    A couple of things…

I like to think Kasich is in the race at this point to be a spoiler. Trump is getting irritated that Kasich is “stealing his delegates”. that’s good enough for me!

The convention will be “so cool”? There’s nothing cool about Republicans…not a thing.

If you’re of legal age to vote and you’re hip with Bieber and ANY Kardashian…please admit yourself to the nearest mental health facility immediately to begin your detox treatments and reintroduction to society.

As for down ticket races…yes absolutely…please strike while the iron is hot.
