Voter Suppression

Kris Kobach Was Embarrassed in Court Again

Written by SK Ashby

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach was ordered to inform voters who registered to vote without providing proof of citizenship that they may vote while the case against his rules proceeds in court, but he never did that.

Kobach hasn't been locked up, unfortunately, but he has been ordered to pay the legal bill of his opponents after being held in contempt.

U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson found Kobach, a conservative Republican running for Kansas governor, in contempt of court. She did not fine Kobach but ordered him to pay court costs, including attorney fees for the American Civil Liberties Union, which sought the contempt ruling.

Moriah Day, a spokeswoman for Kobach’s campaign for governor, said the secretary of state’s office would appeal the decision and would have no other comment.

For Kobach, a man who sees illegal voters in his soup, being forced to pay the legal bills of the ACLU is probably worse than being temporarily imprisoned.

Kobach is appealing the decision but I can't see a leg for him to stand on. It's a demonstrable fact that he has not followed court orders.

I've said this before, but if Kansas elects Kobach as their next governor the state is completely fucked. He will be worse than Sam Brownback was.
