McConnell: Lets Not Exploit Tragedy

Posted by JM Ashby

In a not-so-stunning role reversal, Mitch McConnell decided to use his exclusive appearance on Chris Wallace's Fox News Sunday to advise against using a tragedy to shape domestic legislation.

Fox News' Chris Wallace Sunday asked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell if the nuclear disaster in Japan had caused him to have second thoughts about his desire to build nuclear plants in the U.S.

"I don't think right after a major environmental catastrophe is a very good time to be making American domestic policy," McConnell said.

"My thought about it is, we ought not to make American and domestic policy based on an event that happened in Japan, and we ought to concentrate on helping the Japanese get past this catastrophe."

I don't believe immediately following a disaster, whether man-made in the case of 9/11 or environmental in the case of an earthquake, is a good time to shape domestic policy either. I do however think Mitch McConnell is a hypocrite of the highest order for saying such a thing.

Shock Doctrine is the specialty of the Corporate Republican Party, but now that the shoe is on the other foot, McConnell wants to put on the brakes and take a step back. Ya' know, to make sure we do the right thing.
