“Medi-scare”

Written by SK Ashby

Congressional Democrats and concerned citizens are raising the alarm and vowing to fight the GOP's plan to privatize Medicare, but Speaker of the House and Randian granny-starver Paul Ryan vaguely implied this morning that he doesn't intended to privatize Medicare even though he's been trying to do that for most of a decade.

During his presser, Ryan said "what's happening is you're getting the latest wave of Democratic talking points to try to play Medi-scare politics, which is what they typically do every other Tuesday." [...]

Ryan has been pretty vocal about his plans, however. On Thursday he once again argued the program needed to be overhauled.

It's no mystery or secret what Ryan's plans are. Ryan even ran for vice-president in 2012 on his plan to privatize Medicare by converting into a glorified coupon system.

Privatization of Medicare has been a feature of his plans dating all the way back to 2011 when he first unveiled his Path to Poverty Path to Prosperity budget. That budget was recently rebranded as "A Better Way," but it's still the same plan.

Moreover, Trump's choice to run the Department of Health and Human Services, Tom Price, is in favor of privatizing Medicare.

Even the most hack-y reporters must have done a double-take when Ryan implied that he doesn't plan to privatize Medicare.
