Abortion War On Women

Members of the Select Planned Parenthood Committee Have Been Chosen

Outgoing Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) has chosen the members of the Select Committee on Planned Parenthood and judging by this short list it will undoubtedly be a disaster that could rival or surpass the Select Committee on Benghazi.

What immediately stands out to me is the choice of Marsha Blackburn as the committee chairwoman.

The GOP undoubtedly believes they're pulling a fast one by appointing a woman as the chair of the committee, but Marsha Blackburn will be a disaster rivaling the shitshow overseen by Chairman Trey Gowdy on the Benghazi Committee.

It's been a few years but you may recall Blackburn voted against the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) because it would have expanded existing protections to LGBT and Native American women.

Other members of the committee "investigating" Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides healthcare to low-income women, don't fare much better. Sean Duffy (R-WI) made a name for himself by claiming he was struggling to get by on his meager salary of $174,000 per year.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz has clearly stated that they've found no evidence of wrongdoing in Planned Parenthood's finances and that should have closed the case, but obviously it didn't.

The tall tale of an underground black market for fetuses overseen by Planned Parenthood was just the latest excuse to launch another protracted assault on access to abortion.

Vicki Hartzler (R-Mo) – look out world, you are about to get a load of this one. As a proud Missourian, let me assure you, she is a piece of work.

just the latest excuse to launch another protracted assault on access to abortion.

And the assault on access to abortion is just the more publicly acceptable name for what they’re actually doing: imposing their will on other people.

It has never been about abortion. It has always been about wielding control over other people’s lives. (While claiming they’re all for freedumb, of course.)

The list is worse than I expected. Do those eight need to boost their profiles for next year’s election? Because I’m not seeing much relevant expertise.

The Three Stooges look competent by comparison.

Because looking incompetent at the last PP committee hearing AND all of the Benghazi hearings wasn’t quite enough. They best be careful or they’ll get feathers stuck in their nether regions.

I’m really beginning to truly hate every Congressional Republican.

Ladies and gentlemen, your next Republican politicos in need of red faced embarrassment.

I love how Republican outreach comes by stacking the panel with women most normal women are ashamed to call their own gender. The GOP is so fucking clueless and it is marvelous.

It’s a fair point. There are only 22 House GOP women and 4 of them are on this panel, meaning they’re over-represented. It’s not a coincidence.

They think filling the panel with women will shield it from criticism, but it certainly won’t with a nutjob like Blackburn as the chair.

I feel like Republicans have proved their cluelessness, and apparent inability to learn from past experience, countless times over the years. Apparently, when they put a woman into a high profile position, they think the only concern anyone might have, is that she is in fact a woman. They never expect anyone to look beyond that, and it has bitten them in the ass many times. But, please proceed guys, you’re doing great.
