Election 2016

Mike Pence is a Ridiculous Person

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered an amazing speech yesterday in which she denounced Trump's boast that he regularly kisses and gropes women without their consent and called dismissals of his comments an insult to decent men.

That seems easy enough to understand for most people, but Mike Pence is not most people.

Pence appeared on CBS this morning where he said he "doesn't understand" Michelle Obama's critique.

“Look I have a lot of respect for the first lady,” Pence told “CBS This Morning” early Friday. “But I don’t understand the basis of her claim.”

“You don’t believe his language was ‘sexually predatory?’” co-host Norah O’Donnell asked Pence, quoting Obama’s words when she slammed Trump for “bragging about sexually assaulting women.” [...]

“Donald Trump has -- has asserted that all of these recent unsubstantiated allegations are categorically false and I do believe him,” Pence said, affirming that he “absolutely” spoke to Trump personally about the accusations.

Mike Pence himself denounced Trump's comments which were captured on tape by Access Hollywood. Pence said there is no defense for what Trump said just after the tape was released, but Pence is now defending it.

And if that weren't ridiculous enough, Pence evidently believes everything Trump tells him.

Pence spent the entire vice presidential debate denying every word Trump has ever said. Then he condemned Trump's words. Then he denied his owns after Trump publicly broke with him. Now he's defending words that he called indefensible.

Mike Pence is a ridiculous person.

In case you missed it, you can watch the First Lady's speech yourself and tell me if any part of it is difficult to understand.

Mike Pence doesn’t understand Michelle Obama’s criticism of Donald Trump because he thinks it’s in his political best interest not to understand.

Pence thinks 2016 is a normal presidential election year, that being a loyal vice presidential nominee earns him brownie points with the party and the public. He thinks no one will remember his defense of Trump in four years, that he can shake the Etch-A-Sketch in 2020 and become a powerful rival to Paul Ryan in the GOP primaries.

Mike Pence is, I fervently hope, wrong.

  • It moved me to tears. Michelle is a national treasure.

Wholeheartedly agree. And, bonus!, Michelle will be a national treasure for many, many years to come.

This whole election has highlighted the unfortunately large swath of population that is either bigoted or totally incapable of critical thinking or both. Is this a failure of education? The repubs simply manipulate these people for their own ends. The whole thing is crazy. You can’t make up shit like this.

Is this a failure of education?

Why do you think Red Shirts are so hostile to education, head-start, child nutrition, affordable college, student-loan forgiveness, et cetera? Future Red Shirts!

Is this a failure of education?

Yes. And it’s why Republicans are so adamantly opposed to anything that promotes education, from Head Start and programs for pre-schoolers to overhauling college loans. And educated, thinking population is a major concern to them.

It’s also a failure of leadership on the Democratic side. Too long the Dems have failed to oppose the Republicans and call them out on their shit.
