Monstrous

In other news, federal prosecutors made it clear in court this morning that Trump's longtime henchmen Michael Cohen is under criminal investigation. They say the investigation has been ongoing for "months" and that it's independent from the Mueller probe.

Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that Trump called Cohen to "check in" today which is probably not a good idea. If the investigation has been ongoing for months, Cohen's phone is probably tapped.

Finally, Trump has pardoned convicted liar and leaker Lewis "Scooter" Libby. Libby outed former CIA secret agent Valerie Plame at the behest of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Plame was outed because her husband opposed the Iraq War.

Trump is clearly sending a signal to his buddies who've recently been indicted.

Here's a handful of other stories I missed during this batshit crazy week:

The United States has accepted just 11 Syrian refugees over the past five months. Over 12,000 were accepted during President Obama's last year in office.

Researchers say the death toll from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico was closer to 1,085, not the government's count of just 64 deaths.

Authorities say a white supremacist in Wisconsin accidentally blew himself up while constructing an "ISIS-style bomb" that was used in attacks in England and France. The say the man had so many bomb-making materials in his apartment, they burned the entire complex down in a controlled demolition to be safe.

Mick Mulvaney says he's very concerned about banks refusing to do business with gunmakers. He hasn't ruled out intervening on their behalf.
