NRATV is Finished

Great news -- the National Rifle Association's (NRA) grotesque television channel is ceasing production and a significant portion of the NRA's other propaganda operations will soon vanish.

Because the NRA severed ties with their production company, Ackerman McQueen Inc, everything that Ackermoon produced including NRATV will end.

From CNN:

Washington (CNN)The National Rifle Association is shutting down production of its online streaming network, NRATV, according to a spokesman for the gun lobby.

Andrew Arulanandam confirmed to CNN on Wednesday that the organization will stop producing new content for its 24-hour live online channel. The decision was first reported by the New York Times.

The Times noted that NRATV may air past content, but its hosts, like Dana Loesch, will no longer be featured in live programming.

While NRATV will continue to broadcast old content for the immediate future, it's unlikely that the channel will remain on the air for very long. At the very least, it seems likely that the channel will disappear altogether once current contracts are fulfilled.

Ordinarily, the NRA would simply find another production company, but the gun lobby is bleeding millions of dollars in legal fees while it grapples with the fraud and graft of its own board members and even its own legal representation.

The NRA could resurrect NRATV, but I don't know where they'll find the money.

NRATV was a poisonous operation that frequently eclipsed InfoWars for the amount of paranoia and misinformation it pumped into cable boxes across the country. We will be better off for its absence.

Cry me a river! Is it wrong that I am happy to see conservative NRA groupie and all-around harpie Dana Loesch out of a job? Maybe she can snag that Super Beets foolishness she briefly did. Once a con artist, always a con artist.

Paul Waldman this morning posited that NRATV was doomed as soon as Donald Trump was elected, since R control of the national government means less panic about gun-grabbin’ libruls!:

The NRA’s answer to this problem has been to shift focus away from the threat of government oppression and toward a chaotic and dangerous world, where terrorists, gangs, criminals and anyone you pass on the street is out to kill you at a moment’s notice. That means you have to be heavily armed in case your home is invaded by an Islamic State strike team or you need to exchange fire with a fellow customer on your next trip to the Piggly Wiggly.

But even that obviously didn’t seem to the NRA like it would be enough. So when they launched their TV channel, they figured that in addition to content focused purely on guns, which would have a limited audience, they’d need to supply a heavy dose of culture war programming, with the anger and resentment turned up to 11. After all, isn’t that what people want?

Well, yes, but existing Righty media already does a fine job of whipping the rubes into paroxysms of rage and paranoia. There wasn’t much NRATV could add to the mix. Certainly thee wasn’t much of a market for yet more insane, hair-on-fire commentary about them damn’ Demonrats! and those people!

Good riddance to NRATV, and—fingers crossed—good riddance to the NRA.
