Obama’s Fault

New Jersey governor and Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie sought to exploit the closure of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) during last night's primary debate and he somehow reached the conclusion that it was President Obama's fault.

CHRISTIE: "The second largest school district in America in Los Angeles closed based on a threat. Think about the effect that that is going to have on those children. When they go back to school tomorrow wondering, filled with anxiety about whether they're really going to be safe. Think about the mothers who will take those children tomorrow morning to the bus stop, wondering whether their children will arrive back on that bus safe and sound.

What is Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton done to this country, that the most basic responsibility of an administration is to protect the safety and security of the American people."

In not so eloquent terms, I'm going to explain why Christie is just as big of a fucking idiot as LAUSD officials. I know there are people out there who believe school officials made the right call, but I can't accept that.

The hoax threat emailed to school officials came from an @cockmail email address hosted by the 8chan troll forum and the IP address was apparently traced to Frankfurt, Germany.

If using a "madbomber@cock" email address wasn't enough of a giveaway, the threat claimed exactly 32 attackers would detonate bombs with cellphones and deploy "nerve gas agents." It's not as if you can buy nerve gas at the supermarket.

If you're going to blame anyone for this, you have to blame school officials. If you blame the president, you're essentially saying he's responsible for every incident where public officials fall for a ridiculous hoax.

If we're going to jump at every shadow, American school children are going to end up with more hoax days than snow days.

Why not? They blame Obama for the attacks in Paris.

It’s remarkable to compare what they expect, um, CERTAIN people to just suck up and deal with, while certain others can’t be expected to function under the slightest bit of uncertainty.

    • Plus, the Republicans are constantly “We’re at war! The terrorists want to kill all of us. They’re streaming across the border. Fear! Fear! Fear!” and then they complain when people take this fear to heart and overreact?

Christie’s closer neighbor, NYC, got the SAME HOAX EMAIL and made the right choice to treat it as a hoax. Number of school children harmed = ZERO. Amount of pandering fear mongering provided to Christie from NYC = ZERO. What an effing tool.

This is all GOP politics is anymore. No serious policy discussion. No new ideas. Not even a defense of old ideas. Just point at something that has happened and then mubble out the names Hillary & Obama. The audience has sniffed it’s cat nip and the rest of us are left shaking our heads. People who don’t follow politics closely until an election approaches must be left in simple, confused shock.

I’ve been so disgusted for so long by this nonsense I’m almost numb to it. Almost.

    Chris Christie is a buffoon.

While LAUSD overreacted to a hoax, if the district had shrugged it off and something had happened, it would have been pitchforks-and-torches time. I’m with Charlie Pierce, “an over-abundance of caution” is a phrase that makes my skin crawl, but until the public decides not to jump whenever someone claiming to be a bad guy says boo, elected officials are going to have to act as if every threat is real and credible.

The terrorists won as soon as George W Bush stood on top of a pile of wreckage and vowed bloody vengeance.
