One of the Worst Men in Washington is Resigning

Good news -- acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Thomas Homan is planning to resign next month.

The Wall Street Journal first reported this evening that Homan will resign rather than go through the process of a formal confirmation.

WASHINGTON— Thomas Homan, the controversial acting director of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, plans to retire and leave his post, three people familiar with his plans said. [...]

One person familiar with Mr. Homan’s reasoning said the prospect of a tough, partisan confirmation process persuaded him to leave the agency now. Another person said family considerations played a prominent role.

It's possible that "family considerations" did play a role in his decision, but it's a good bet that he would have been torn to shreds by Democrats in the Senate. Even a handful of Republicans may have raised tough questions for Homan, a man who has diverted a considerable amount of federal resources and money to arresting and deporting people who pose no threat to society.

Homan's ICE has gone out of its way to arrest every immigrant they come across regardless of how long they've been here or what their personal circumstances are. People who've been here for 30 or 40 years have been deported by Homan's roving bands of lawless thugs.

It would take hours to list every despicable thing ICE has done under Homan's orders.

Good fuckin' riddance.

And putting the genie he unleashed on the ICE rank and file back in the bottle is not going to be easy. It will take years to undo the sentiments he has unleashed within the agencies.

Thomas Homan is a faux tough guy. It’s hilarious that he’s too much of a snowflake to face tough confirmation hearings.

    Good riddance.

Unfortunately, Donald Trump gets to name another acting director and David Duke is currently unemployed.

The conduct of ICE this past year is one of the reasons I have absolutely no concern whether Sarah Huckabee Sanders or anyone else was particularly offended by a comedy bit. ICE literally took custody of a 10 year old girl coming off of surgery, separated her from her family and sent her to a detention center. I suspect any confirmation process would inform the public in no uncertain terms of what trump and his supporters don’t want anyone to know which is the basis for our current immigration policies has next to nothing to do with the law or security or protecting the public.
    Good riddance.

    Adios muchacho!

But who comes in to replace him?

    • Aynwrong

John Kelly? He seems to be Trump’s favorite chess piece.

      Jared Kushner.

    • “Heinrich Himmler is an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is getting recognized more and more, I notice,” is probably what Trump is thinking.
